Aircraft Recovery – Rapid Response

Owner: Private / Responding on behalf of USCG

United States Coast Guard called out Ballard Marine Construction with the report of a small aircraft that had crashed into the Columbia River near Astoria.  The plane had been carrying the city’s ex-mayor and son.  A local Foss vessel was able to rescue the occupants who only had minor injuries.  The Ballard team mobilized with environmental response and salvage teams, a regional crane barge and other specialty rigging and salvage gear.

The rigging operation was executed and resulted in the plane being lifted evenly and undamaged onto a materials barge. The salvage team received accolades from the USCG for the efficient and safe operation.
