Ballard Contracted by City of Evanston for a Raw Water Intake Replacement Project

Ballard recently contracted a $47 million project with the City of Evanston in Illinois to replace and update one of the City’s aging raw water intake pipeline and intake structures. Updating this intake will allow the city to draw a greater amount of raw water into its system, as well as replace associated structures which are near the end of their service life. Work will consist of upgrading to a sixty-inch diameter intake from the current thirty-six- and forty-two-inch diameter.  A total of 6,000 LF of intake piping will be replaced, as well as a new cast-in-place sixty-inch valve vault, updates to the shoreline bulkhead, existing valve vaults, and instrumentation upgrades. The project is expected to run from January 2023 – December 2024.
